The Waterbury Symphony Orchestra (WSO) presents its Season Opening Concert, ’Tales of 1001 Nights’ on Sunday October 6th at 3pm at the Fine Arts Center of CT State Community College, Naugatuck Valley (formerly NVCC) in Waterbury, CT.

We open our 86th season with the Sultana Scheherazade as she spins her tales of mystery and wonder over 1001 nights, and celebrate the 150th birthday of CT’s own Charles Ives in collaboration with local composer Paul Frucht who brings a captivating rendition to The Unanswered Question. Celebrating his 30th anniversary with the WSO, Music Director Leif Bjaland's shared the captivating story behind the music program for the concert, "The Sultana Scheherazade spins her tales of mystery and wonder over 1001 nights in this colorful showpiece by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, one of the most popular orchestral works of the late 19th century. To also celebrate the 150th birthday of Connecticut’s own Charles Ives this year, we perform his famous Unanswered Question, with embellishments by Connecticut composer Paul Frucht. Finally, a dear friend of the WSO, renowned pianist Andrew Armstrong returns this season to play one of the great romantic piano concertos, the Rachmaninoff 2nd.”
