  WSO Appoints New Marketing Director

The Waterbury Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce the appointment of Kathryn Dennen to the position of Marketing Director. Kathryn will begin work for the Symphony on July 28th. She replaces Michael Schwerin who left the orchestra after two years to accept a position as Executive Director of the Grand Junction Symphony in Colorado.

Kathryn has recently been the Marketing Director for A&C Medical in Southbury and Marketing Director and Administrative Assistant for the Woodbury Ballet, as well as directing her own video production company. Prior to coming to CT, she worked for ten years with WGBH Educational Television in Boston.

The WSO personnel committee was particularly impressed with Kathryn’s energy, innovative ideas, and the quality of her graphic design work. She also has experience with managing volunteers and coordinating fundraising events.

Kathryn holds a B.A. in English and an M.A. in Educational Technology from Fairfield University.

American Saving Foundation Provides Summer Intern

The new voice on the phone at the WSO office is that of Tami Rafaniello, a summer intern provided by the American Savings Foundation. In the fall, Tami will be entering her senior year at St. Joseph College in West Hartford, where she is majoring in Biology and English. Tami performed as a clarinetist in her high school band, performed in several choirs and for several summers was a Vacation Bible School music teacher.

In addition to providing general office and concert support for the Symphony, Tami is writing the curriculum materials for two of the WSO education programs, Pictures for Your Ears (Oct. 24 for grades 3-4) and The Fortune Cantata: The Journey to a World Premier (May 8 for grades 6-12.) Tami will also provide classroom assistance for the Lego Overture Series in August.
